Holding cops accountable Empty Holding cops accountable

Post by manhattanspeak Mon Feb 22, 2010 8:01 am

After work this morning (4am), my husband walked our dog over to Inwood Hill Park. He came across a cop car with an officer playing Nintendo DS. This was my husbands tweet this morning:

RT @frogfishNYC: Not many things say im here to protect you quite like a nintendo ds. #nypd #ihp #10034
So fine, we have more patrols right? BUT THAT'S NOT ENOUGH. How can we hold these cops on patrol accountable for actually *doing* their jobs?

Rachel responded:

RT @Jewyorican: always take badge numbers and photos/video if you can. The best way to get them is to embarass them online. #inwoodsafety
We need to do this. This is absolutely something that is within our control. Can regular folks forward images to the Inwood Safety Tumbler page from their cell phones?

What else can we do to get these guys to get out of their cars?

I love Rachel's idea above. Whether or not we can post to the forum from our phones. I've got enough email addresses in the ol' rolodex now that I can forward any incriminating pictures right to where they matter. Surprised

I would also like to see an ISP video camera (like ArtforStrangers had) at every community meeting.

How did that camera work by the way? I'm thinking of upgrading my phone and think that would be an amazing addition.

I passed by the cop posted under the Futuristic War of the Worlds Sky Tower the other morning, and he was on the phone talking to his buddy about vacation days. I shot him a look but I'm sure he didn't even see me. And as for that tower, how do we know there's even someone in there?

I used an iPhone and the Qik app, and broadcast it live over the 3G network.
Qik.com makes the videos automatically archived.

I believe you can check on Qik.com to see if it works with your phone.

It's all free.

There might be other services (UBroadcaster) that can also be used for live broadcasting.

If you have any questions regarding the iPhone, just let me know.

Cheers
